There is some anticipation to see if crew chief Ron Swearingen can duplicate the magic he made over with Dan Horan. It will take a few races for Swearingen to get a handle on the car, when he does the rest of the field better beware.

On the outside looking in was Chris Davis in his Nitro Vega, and March Meet Champ Steven Densham. Densham had all the blower studs fail, and shear off at the launch.

"We are lucky it happened here in qualifying and not in the final round at the March Meet," stated Densham.

Q2 Started off with a big shot fired by Team Densham in the "Teacher's Pet" Camaro that rung up on the clocks at 5.80/242.58. Next was "Hollywood" Kris Krabill in Uncle Bucky's Bardahl' Trans Am at 5.86/237.30, dropping Boychuk in a third with a 5.87/229.16. Rounding out the top four was Overholser at 5.90-248.52.

On the bump was Scott Stanger in his beautiful "Bad Manners" Barracuda at 6.26/229.94. To compare between last year and this showing the effects of the track fix, Stanger's time that was on the bump this year's event, last year would have been P1 by seventeen hundredths of a second.

Robert Overholser

They were followed by Townsend at 5.92/242.67, Roger Garten in the "Warhorse" Mustang 6.11/232.71, Goodguys president, Marc Meadors, at 6.11/232.15, and rounding out the field was Wally Giava in the "G-Man" Challenger at 6.23/224.02.

On the outside looking in was Stanger at 6.26/229.94 and Davis in the Nitro Vega 6.34/227.46. As a comparison, Davis' time would have put him sixth last year.
