Eliminations

Bazz Young in the “Down-Under Thunder” Camaro had another good outing at Beacon Dragway. He went to the semifinals before losing to the “Crop Duster” Altered.

The first round of Eliminations went off at 6 p.m. in front of a good size audience despite the fact it was raining all around the track. The first pair was an all altered affair. It matched Frank Ousley’s contemporary fuel Alt which has the exact same engine, chassis and drivetrain as a DRO-legal AA/FC, and Troy Ray’s tribute AA/FA which is an exact copy of a Logghe Bros. chassis from the era.

White left first with a .130 RT and cruised to a winning 4.152/171.61 pass. Ray’s “Wildside” altered was keeping up when something went south and the massive altered made a very sudden right turn into the guardrail, bending the front half of the chassis severely and bruising the Wisconsin owner’s wallet. He told DRO that he would have the clone repaired in time for the series race at Maple Grove in July.

Richard Hartman and DRO Rookie Tera Graves were the next pair. Hartman, who had not been able to go down the track put a massive tenth of a second plus holeshot on Graves but just like all of his previous efforts he just missed the set-up and smoked the tires in the “Runnin’ Wide VI”. Ms. Graves went a little further down the track than Hartman before she had traction issues but still managed a winning 4.468/138.04 to Hartman’s out the back door 5.248/171.09.
