Troy Coughlin Sr.

Another great race in eliminations was between former RPM/NHRA champ Troy Coughlin Sr. in his turbo Vette and Pete Farber's supercharged '69 Daytona. These two hooked in what was one of the fastest side-by-side races in NHRA history. Coughlin left first with a .091 and Farber followed with a .101. At the stripe Coughlin was first with a 5.821/255.68 to Farber's 5.826/250.46 It was the only side-by-side pass over 250 mph of the race.

CONCLUSION

The RPM/NHRA Pro Mods continue to be the best supported, most successful doorslammer class in drag racing. The Pro Mods are the only NHRA pro class that is actually bringing many new racers and new sponsors to the NHRA, and Pro Mod is the only NHRA professional class with enough entries to make qualifying entertaining.

Why the NHRA isn't taking advantage of this class to promote the NHRA and their national events is the real question.
