Radial versus the World

The Radial versus the World class qualifying and racing lived up to the pre-race hype that a $50,000 to win purse brings. Fifty-seven cars and drivers vied for just 32 available qualifying spots. It took an ET quicker than Texan Marty Robertson’s 4.116 to be one of the quick 32.

Undoubtedly the attraction for racers and fans to this event was not only the $50,000 winners share in the RVW class but also the participation by two of the stars of the Street Outlaws reality show, Shawn Ellington in the Murder Nova and Justin “Big Chief” Shearer and his “Crowmod”. Both were entered in RVW class and both DNQ’d. Ellington did come back, qualified for the PRO 275 class, and went to the semifinals before bowing out.

Fifty-seven teams attempted to qualify for the the 32-car field. Texas racer Jason Michalak drove his 2008 supercharged ‘Vette to a pole-setting low ET of the race 3.876 at 198.13 mph.

Daniel Pharris from Sikeston, Mo., drove his supercharged Mustang to the weekend’s fastest speeds with several laps above 209 and a top speed of 210.14!
