Alkydigger NE3

Bobby Bates

Ten cars made up the NE3 field. Sitting at the top of the championship chase by a wide margin, Josh Moseley has to fight off number two in points Dustin Bradford if he expects to capture his first SHRA series championship. But the other NE3 racers are willing to help with the effort to slow down Moseley.

After qualifying number one with a 5.508, Lucky Jones of Teague, Tex., had plans to go rounds but was interrupted with a round 1 loss to Bobby Bates. Moseley, who was in the number 3 qualifying slot, went down in Round 1 to Robert Springstead in a close battle that earned Moseley the Equipment Sales & Service of Texas Best R1 Losing Package bonus. San Antonio runner Bradford, who was looking for points with Moseley out, fell in the semifinals to eventual winner Bobby Bates.

Bates collected his second win in a row when in the final he took out the top qualifier Gary Mitchell with a holeshot 5.576/117.90 to 5.457/124.91.

The Nostalgia Super Stockers have a battle for the championship that also is tightening up Vic Corlett took his new look Dodge to the win over David Ardoin.  This gives last year's champ Corlett two wins in a row and momentum towards getting back to the top with only two events remaining.

The Old School No Electronic racers have their hands full with a blue '37 Chevy Coupe. Jim Baughan continues to dominate in his attempt to repeat as class champion. Baughan met up in the final round against rookie John Goetz Jr. with his Mopar but in the final the Chevy would not be denied and Baughan claimed his 4th win of the year.

Baughan has a good points lead for the championship but with racers like Jason Marshall, Steve Kent and Goetz within striking distance, the race for the championship isn't over yet!

In Old School Electronics, a first time SHRA participant took the win in Kennedale as Curtis Wells marched to the final and win when he defeated Michelle Riedel in the final.

Alex Garca maintains the lead in the championship chase, but Dean Johnson took advantage of an early exit by Garca in Kennedale and pulled within 33 points of leader Garca with two events left on the schedule.
