Slammin’ in the NHRA

Jeff, again another excellent bit about the state of Pro Mods.

If you will research the history of NHRA, they (Wally and his buddies), always considered anything with doors to be a beginner type car. They always assumed that the door cars (stockers at the time) would get their feet wet in this new drag racing deal, (this was just after Wally made up his notorious letter to the editor asking for a national sanctioning body), and then "step up" to a HOT CAR or dragster deal.

Well, what Wally and his buddies didn't figure was that the door slammer type cars would outnumber the HOT CARS by a very large margin.

NHRA to this day caters to the FUEL cars, basically, to hell with the rest, we need filler between the fuel guys anyway, charge these FOOL gas type cars through the nose let them run, even though it is a HUGE bother to us, the NHRA.

NHRA will NEVER be Sportsman or Doorslammer friendly

Remember, NHRA DIDN'T EVEN recognize Funny Cars until '67 or '69. (I'm old, sometimes I can't remember everything!)

A few examples: Modified Eliminator, eliminated due to TOO much hassle, Pro Stock Truck same thing, Super Stock and Junior stock in the ‘60s.

I have been involved with drag racing since the ‘60s as a driver, crew guy and fan.

The current suits that run NHRA have NEVER done any of those things; the only thing they see is a very large paycheck for doing basically nothing, AND THE FOOLS KEEP COMING AND PUTTING CASH IN THE NHRA's filthy, deep pockets.

You may have gathered that I don't much care for NHRA; you're correct. I used to when racing was racing, run by racers; not anymore, nor for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the article and keep nipping at their heels!

Your pal,

Gary Anderson

Is history doomed to repeat itself?

Jeff: I agree with your analysis of the current AA/FD situation. And after getting a face full of oil, I'm sure Paul Romine would concur.
