Snyder’s new Camaro will make 2018 debut

Mick Snyder, who has been a champion in Alcohol Funny Car, Pro Extreme and Top Sportsman, will debut a Powersource Transportation ‘68 Camaro for the upcoming Top Sportsman season. After excelling in the orange ’63 Corvette still owned by Jason Scruggs for the past eight years, Snyder is now eager for the challenge in a new car.

His new Camaro will look quite a bit different than the orange-dominant Corvette. This car will be predominately gray with an orange stripe, with Snyder doing most of the designing and shying away from all-orange simply because there’s “too many orange cars out there now.”

The path to getting the car was also unconventional. Snyder was dropping off motors to a customer in Texas, made an offer on the car and came back to his DeMotte, IN, home with a car that was previously owned and tuned by the legendary Howard Moon.

Snyder wants to increase his schedule a bit from 2017, hoping to make 10-12 races in 2018. He’ll have the car ready by April with plans to race Top Sportsman in NHRA Division 3, perhaps hit a few national NHRA events and a couple of PDRA events, as well as a handful of Quick 8 races in the region.

JFR tabs Sara Slaughter for top PR post

John Force Racing has announced 26-year-old Sara Slaughter, most recently Media Relations Manager for the NHRA, as its new Public Relations Director.

“Our team has worked with Sara over the last two seasons and John and I were very impressed with her work ethic and her relationship with the media,” said JFR President Robert Hight, the reigning NHRA Funny Car Champion.

“Obviously, we have two of the most successful women drivers in racing in Brittany and Courtney (the two youngest daughters of the company’s namesake and CEO) so it just made good business sense to bring in another strong woman to work with them moving forward.”

Slaughter will manage all aspects of JFR’s public relations and publicity and will work closely with Vice-President of Sales Steve Cole in the California office and Director of Marketing Kelly Antonelli at JFR’s race headquarters in Brownsburg, IN.

Topeka changes track name to Heartland Motorsports Park

Jake Schmidtlein, General Manager for Heartland Park Topeka, announced today at the facility that the company will officially be changing its name to “Heartland Motorsports Park” effective immediately. As part of the rebranding, the organization has also unveiled a new logo and redesign of its website.

Schmidtlein explained that the new name would reflect the evolving focus and standards of the company, adding, “As we continue to grow and improve Heartland Motorsports Park we want our name and logo to emphasize our position as one of the premier motorsports facilities in the United States.”

Heartland Park Topeka first opened in 1989, and features a championship NHRA-sanctioned quarter-mile drag strip, four-level sponsor suite tower, a newly surfaced 2.5-mile road course with four different configurations, a 3/8-mile banked clay oval, a 22-acre asphalt pad for autocross and drifting events, and a new motocross track. The paddock area provides access to private garages, asphalt parking and access roads as well as grass parking and camping areas that can be utilized for car shows, swap meets and other large footprint events.

Located in Topeka, KS, the facility covers approximately 650 acres and provides ample room for its many racing and motorsports venues. 2018 will mark the third season of ownership of the facility for Shelby LLC.

SR50 20W-50 Conventional Racing Motor Oil from Driven

Driven Racing Oil™ has added an oil developed to provide maximum performance at a price the Sportsman racer can afford. SR50-20W-50 is a robust conventional motor oil to be used where frequent oil changes are needed, such as in dirt track and Sportsman bracket racing, to eliminate the build-up of dirt or fuel dilution. It utilizes a proprietary anti-wear and friction-reducing additive package to fight valve train wear and internal scuffing. Ideal for race engines requiring a 20W-50 weight motor oil, SR50 provides consistent protection for flat tappet engines and prevents lifter skidding in aggressive roller cam valve trains using both needle and bushing lifters. It is not recommended in engines with stamped steel rockers; instead, use Driven Racing Oil’s XP9 or XP6 for optimal durability.
