AGENT 1320
The Premier Street Car Association and the Mid-West Pro Mod Series return to action this weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park as part of the 3rd Annual Heads-Up Hootenanny. Small-tire ace and NHRA Pro Mod winner Stevie “Fast” Jackson will be here and is scheduled to run his legendary Camaro “Shadow” Friday and Saturday night for two exhibition passes per night. It is the first time “Shadow” has run the 1320 at Gateway.
Jackson, who earned his first-ever NHRA Pro Mod victory during his rookie campaign last year at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kans., isn’t racing this weekend due to repairs being administered to his car, but is tuning for Jeff Sitton. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet Stevie Fast during two 30-minute autograph sessions, one on Friday and one on Saturday. [05/24/18]
Ron Meunks currently leads the MWPMS Pro Mod points going into the St. Louis event.
Keith Haney Racing will not attend a scheduled event for the first time in nearly three years. Haney was planning to compete with the Frankenstein Engine Dynamics Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) this weekend, May 25-26, at Gateway Motorsports Park, near St. Louis.
"So, I won't be in St. Louis, but the rest of my great Mid-West Pro Mod Series guys will be there, including David Cook, who will run the show just as he always does. This is strictly a Keith Haney Racing decision and doesn't affect anything with the Mid-West Pro Mod Series," added Haney, who also owns and promotes the MWPMS and leads in the Radial vs. the World points.
Jim Sackuvich, who crashed his own car in pre-race testing for the Tulsa event at the end of March, borrowed Haney’s “Notorious” Camaro but will have a new car making its debut at St. Louis.
Following this weekend's event, KHR will return to action with the Frankenstein Engine Dynamics Mid-West Pro Mod Series on June 29-30 at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, KS. [05/24/18]
For the third consecutive Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27) Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, KY, will host the JEGS SPORTSnationals. Sportsman racers will be vying for the coveted JEGS Crown, a prize purse of more than $108,000, with special bonus races and national event contingency payouts.
Winning the JEGS Crown is not easy as a racer has to win the same category at consecutive JEGS SPORTSnationals. Last year’s winners have a shot if they win again this year: Jason Coan (Comp Eliminator), Michael Bryant (Super Stock), Ricky Pennington (Stock), Jonathan Anderson (Super Comp), Joe Harper (Super Gas), Gary Horstmann (Super Street), Jason Lynch (Top Sportsman), and Lynn Ellison (Top Dragster). Guests of the new vault will find rarely-seen vehicles such as the two-time Le Mans-winning 1966 GT40 in Gulf livery, a 2018 Ford GT Heritage Edition, a 1929 Bugatti Type 46, a 1936 Delahaye, Steve McQueen’s 1956 Jaguar XKSS, a 2015 McLaren P1, a 1947 Cisitalia and much more.
The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is home to some of the most iconic vehicles on the planet on public display. But until now, one area that has remained under lock and key for the general public has been the museum’s basement, known as The Vault.
On Friday, June 1, the Petersen Automotive Museum will unveil a new vault experience called “The World Tour,” which unlocks the vault display. This program is part of a 10-year partnership with Hagerty and will deliver a deep, personal excursion through the museum’s underground treasury.
“Car fans are going to be blown away by the vault tour,” McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty, enthused. “Most people haven’t had the opportunity to see a lot of these icons up close before, so we’re thrilled to give them that chance. Cars this special should be seen by everybody.” [05/24/18]
Poor spring weather causing construction delays has forced the opening of Onawa Racing and Events Complex in Onawa, IA, to be delayed.
“Although the facility is now about 95% ready, the 5% remaining to be completed is crucial before opening,” said consultant Scott Garner. “An incredible amount of work has been completed in the last six months, and to make a hasty decision to open before the final important steps are completed would be nearly insane.”
The tentative schedule for Opening Day, June 2, is a Test & Tune with Trophy and Gamblers race. Gates open at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, will see the first Friday Fun Night with Test & Tune and racing for TCR, Trophy and Gamblers beginning at 5:30 p.m. [05/24/18]
This weekend is round three of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage nitro Funny Car racers held May 25-26 at Rocky Mountain Raceways, near Salt Lake City, UT. Funny Cars will be the only Heritage class competing at the Summer Kick-Off event.
A few of the nitro funny cars expected are Heritage Series points leader Bobby Cottrell in the Austin & O’Brien “Northwest Hitter” ’69 Victory Camaro, newcomer Billy Morris driving the “Problem Child” Camaro led by boat racer Eddie Knox (shown) and the NAPA Ignitor runner-up Shawn Bowen driving the sparkling Bartone & Lebor Camaro.
Tim Boychuk’s “Happy Hour” Camaro is also expected for the last Heritage Series nitro event to be held at the Utah facility, as the track will be closing at the end of this season.
Boise Ignitor funny car winner Jeff Arend and the “California Hustler” will sit out this event to concentrate on the United Nitro Funny Car Northwest Double Header on July 4, at Spokane County Raceway and on to Pacific Raceway in Seattle on July 6-7. [05/24/18]
Thompson Raceway Park will hold their Gasser Reunion on June 1-2. The show is open to all cars from 1972 and older. Saturday will feature hot rods, 409’s, altereds, front-engine dragsters, funny cars and AA/GS cars.
The Gasser Nationals will be held at the Ohio track on Sept. 8-9. [05/24/18]

COMP Cams introduces micro surface enhancement
COMP Cams is the first in the aftermarket to perfect a new camshaft finish technology for increased strength and performance that far exceeds traditional polishing. Micro Surface Enhancement (MSE) reduces surface peak roughness of freshly ground camshaft by 65%. 250% improvement in effective load-bearing area to allow for higher loads. Uniform pressure reduces surface waviness for increased durability. Standard on all COMP Cams GM LS cams and available for other applications at an additional cost (must be ordered via COMP Cams sales personnel at 1-800-999-0853). [05/24/18]
