Austin Prock to make debut at Winternationals

Austin Prock, son of championship tuner Jimmy Prock, will make his NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series debut at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona this weekend. Prock will be driving the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist Top Fuel dragster for John Force Racing tuned by crew chiefs Jon Schaffer and Ronnie Thompson.

Montana Brand and Rocky Mountain Twist are an industry leader in design, engineering and manufacturing that builds power drill accessories.

Austin Prock started his career in drag racing as a member of Courtney Force’s Advance Auto Parts Chevy Camaro SS Funny Car team and then moved to working on superchargers for Brittany Force. Throughout his time with John Force Racing, Prock has been working his way to becoming the next driver for the team. He holds both Top Fuel and Funny Car licenses.

House hopes to get past Pomona and on to TF Harley championship

Rickey House has been a multi-time national event winner and solid title contender in the two years since the Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Drag Racing Series has competed on the NHRA stage. This season he wants to add "world champion" to his list of accomplishments. The Harleys will begin their season at this weekend’s Winternationals.

"We stopped by Phoenix to test on the way out here to Pomona," House said. "I really just wanted to make sure we'd put the bike together properly and that the engine was ready. I told myself if we ran a 6.35 or quicker I wouldn't make but one pass. Right out of the trailer we ran a 6.338 at 221 mph, and we stumbled a bit during that one, so I loaded it back up and headed out.

"I just decided not to push my luck. That motor has to make it seven more runs so I don't want to wear it out yet. I'm pretty satisfied with what we did. We were going to run that motor once and then change it out and test the other one, but I decided not to after it tried to drizzle a couple of times. I didn't want to get everything switched out and then watch it rain."

Since he assembled both of his powerplants exactly the same way, House feels confident he'll be ready to go this weekend in Pomona and two weeks later when the NHRA tour returns to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park for the 35th annual Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Arizona Nationals, the first event title sponsorship for his sponsor.

"I always run pretty well in Phoenix but for some reason I go to Pomona and struggle,” House explained. “I got lucky and made it to the finals in Pomona last year but I feel like I've got to change something up to repeat that this weekend. I'll be working on a tune-up this week. We'll look at the track prep and the weather and go from there.

"We only race 10 times so every event is big. If we want to be champions, we need to be ready every time."

Shane Tucker adds Nick Ferri input to Pro Stock operation

Australian Shane Tucker has moved his operation to the U.S. in search of an NHRA Pro Stock championship and will run full time this season.

He has recently teamed up with veteran engine supplier and consultant Nick Ferri. Ferri will supply engines and consult with Tucker and his team on the set-up. In the past Ferri worked with JEGS, Cagnazzi Racing, Mike Edwards Motorsports, and most recently with Elite Performance.

Hamilton-Moderate looking to move up in Aussie standings

After coming close to victory at the recent South Coast 660, Modified Bike racer Jake Hamilton-Moderate is hoping to go one better at the upcoming Twilight Nationals on Feb. 15-16.

The event, to be held at the Sunraysia Drag Racing Association’s Sunset Strip in Mildura (Victoria, Australia) will mark round seven of the 2018/19 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, in which Hamilton-Moderate is currently second in the championship standings for his bracket.

“It has been a pretty good season so far, it has run fairly smoothly although we did have a couple of rough starts early on, popping a few cherries (jumped starts),” laughed Hamilton-Moderate.

“Unfortunately I got another one in the final of the South Coast 660 event, but I wasn’t too fussed at the time whether I won that or not, I was happy with where I was sitting – until the long drive home anyway, then I was a little bit upset about it.

“We have a bit of work to do on the clutch and hopefully that will see us in a better position and hopefully throwing no reds come Mildura in a couple of weeks’ time!”

Hamilton-Moderate is hoping to get to the final two events of the ANDRA Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at Perth Motorplex on March 2-3 for the Westernationals and Apr. 6-7 for the Grand Final – if he can find a way to get his two bikes there.
