Allison McKoane stopped Ryan Herem’s domination of the K&N 890 Series presented by Blaster doubleheader weekend at Auto Club Dragway, as she defeated the former U.S. Nationals champion in the final round of the Sunday, June 23, event.
Saturday’s race saw Herem put up a .004 package in the final to defeat Henderson, Nev., racer Trey Vetter. Herem’s Moser Engineering dragster posted an 8.901 after a .003 reaction time, while Vetter used a .015 light and too quick 8.890.
Herem defeated Madison Payne in the quarterfinals and Travis Richardson in the semis. Vetter beat Chuck Babcock in the quarters and got a bye into the final.
Herem was looking for two straight wins as he entered Sunday’s event, and went to the final by beating Richardson in the semifinal while Clovis, CA, racer McKoane, driving Nick Cobb’s dragster, got a bye.
Allison had a .031 better light in the final and took the event title with an 8.912 to Herem’s losing 8.907.
The final two races of the 2019 K&N 890 Series will be held on September 7 and 8 at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, CA. [06/27/19]
Last year Australian Pro Mod racer Steve Easton drove the “Patriot” Pro Mod, a ’63 split window Corvette, to two wins and a career best elapsed time before packing it in for the season. With crew chief Randy Minadeo once again handling the chassis and suspension while Easton manages the driving duties and weighing in on engine tune-up and drive train, the pair expects even more positive results in 2019.
They have added an SSI supercharger and, after battling valve train issues last year, have changed to a set of Manton tool steel rocker arms.
The Ohio-based team will compete in several Pro Mod events throughout the rest of the season including PDRA and NMCA national events.
“We do most of our races at Dragway 42, Milan Dragway and Quaker City Motorsports Park so we are all over Michigan and Ohio,” explained Easton. “We are also going to hit other tracks around the country including Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk (OH), Virginia Motorsports Park in Virginia, Route 66 Raceway in Joliet (IL) as well as Galot Motorsports Park in North Carolina for some bigger one- or two-day races. It is great to show off this beautiful Patriot Pro Mod at tracks across the country. I think it is one of the best-looking race cars in the country.” [06/27/19]
