Homeland Security getting serious about nitro handling and storage?

Agent 1320 has learned that Homeland Security has contacted nitro seller Dale Pulde and others to express their concern regarding the lack of security that it sees when drag racers leave nitromethane unguarded or unsecured at the race tracks and during races. Pulde has been working with Homeland Security on this issue and they are serious about the issue. Pulde will be on Darr Hawthorne's Nitro Reports tonight to discuss the issue.   [10/15/19]

Nitro Reports Tonight

The traditional California Hot Rod Reunion pre-race show of Nitro Reports goes live tonight (October 15th) at 6 p.m. (Pacific) at NitroReports.com and also on Facebook LIVE.

Million Dollar crew chief?

The most impressive rumor to come out of the just completed NHRA Countdown race at Charlotte was that Mike Salinas is paying Alan Johnson $1,000,000 a year to tune his Top Fuel dragster. Agent 1320 used to hear a lot of rumors back in the day the Austin Coil was paid $1,000,000 by John Force. Capitol Raceway tops at IHRA Division 1 Team Finals

Capitol Raceway (shown) scored a close win over home track Maryland International Raceway at the International Hot Rod Association Division 1 (Patriots) Summit Team Finals completed Monday, due to weather on Sunday.

 

Main Event:

Top: Frank Lecates (US 13 Dragway) had a winning effort with a .005 reaction time combined with a 4.787 elapsed time at 142.57 mph on a 4.78 dial-in. Runner-up Bobby Spence (Capitol Raceway) had a .015 reaction time and made a 4.307-second pass at 158.39 mph against a 4.30 dial-in.

 

Mod: Frank Thompson Jr. (Maryland International Raceway) used a 6.011-second pass at 109.34 mph against a 5.99 dial-in with a .010 reaction time to win. Mike Keyton (Roxboro Motorsports Park) matched his 5.82 dial-in at 118.02 mph, but was slower at the tree with a .099 start.

 

Junior Dragster: Gayge Farrell won with a 12.375 against an 11.90 dial-in with a .022 reaction time. Zach Parlett had a 10.414 elapsed time against an 11.90 dial-in with a .067 reaction time.

 

The IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals will take place at Memphis International Raceway in Millington, TN, on Oct. 17-19. [10/15/19]

UNFC wraps up season with Cottrell as champion

The 2019 Good Vibrations United Nitro Funny Cars Championship Series is a wrap for the season and the Board of Directors has announced the payouts for the Top Five Finishers (event and series payouts).

 

1. Bobby Cottrell, Austin & O’Brien “Northwest Hitter” - $40,000

2. Jim Maroney, Jim Broome Nostalgia Motorsports “Speed Sport” - $24,800

3. Tim Boychuk, Boychuk Racing “Happy Hour” - $16,900

4. Ryan Hodgson, Hodgson/Papirnick Racing “Pacemaker” - $13,000

5. Geoff Monise, Van Gundy & Clark Racing “Quarter Pounder” - $12,150

 

Both Cottrell and Maroney won two events each and Hodgson won the season opener at Tucson Dragway. Total UNFC payouts to seventeen Series competitors at five events are $150,450.

 

All events were run under NHRA Heritage Series Rules; at each event both Winner and Runner-up fuel pumps  were sent off to Ken Crawford for certification and each passed inspection. Each event brought in Jim Black, the UNFC track whisperer, for surface prep.

 

Five events are planned for the 2020 season, plus one bonus race. Membership fee is $2,500 for five 8-car, quarter-mile races paying $7,500 to Win, Runner-up $5,000, Semis $3,500, First round $2,500 with $1,000 each paid to ninth and tenth qualifier. Justin Ashley makes impressive Top Fuel debut

Justin Ashley made his Top Fuel debut at Charlotte, getting past Mike Salinas and Austin Prock (with a holeshot) before falling to Steve Torrence in the semifinals.

Summit renews with IHRA for SuperSeries and Team Finals

The International Hot Rod Association and Summit Racing Equipment will continue the longest series partnership in drag racing with the IHRA Summit Super Series and IHRA Summit Team Finals programs in 2020.

 

The IHRA Summit SuperSeries, the largest and most prestigious bracket racing program in drag racing, will return for a 19th consecutive year in 2020. The $200,000 program is the World Championship for over 12,000 IHRA member-track racers each season and held at nearly 100 IHRA-sanctioned member tracks.

 

IHRA Summit SuperSeries track champions from 28 states and international competitors from Canada, and Aruba are represented in Top (Box), Mod (No Box), Sportsman and Junior divisions, at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Memphis International Raceway. In addition, qualifying Summit Team Final champions from seven IHRA regions are also competing at Memphis.   [10/15/19]
