Prock named NHRA Rookie of the Year

Surprising no one, Austin Prock, driver of the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist Top Fuel dragster for John Force Racing, was named the Auto Club Road to the Future Award, NHRA’s Rookie of the Year Award, winner Monday night, Nov. 18, at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series awards banquet.

The son of famed tuner Jimmy Prock made his professional debut at the 2019 NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona and went on to race a full season in the Mello Yello Series.

Halfway through the tour, at the 16th race of 24, Prock earned his first NHRA professional victory at the Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Seattle. He recorded a career best elapsed time of 3.688 seconds and speed of 334.40 mph in a first-round victory over veteran racer Doug Kalitta at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals. During the season he made it to the semifinal round five times and was the Top Fuel reaction-time leader.

Also coming as no surprise, Chevrolet was awarded the NHRA Manufacturers Cup for the third consecutive year and fourth time in the past five seasons.

Blake Alexander to team up with Jim Head Racing next season

The Head Racing Nitro Funny Car entry will be driven by Blake Alexander in 2020. Alexander and car owner/crew chief Jim Head will compete in 20 events on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series with backing from Pronto Auto Service Centers and Head Contractors & Engineers.

“Firstly, I want to thank Jonnie Lindberg for his services since 2017,” said Head. “Ten years ago, Blake and his wife, Leah, came into my lounge at Pomona and asked me about driving my car. I told them I wasn’t looking for a driver – I was looking for a business partner. Blake has, no doubt, worked hard to get where he is now, and we are excited that our partnership will begin in 2020. Having an asset like Blake will help us succeed on and off the racetrack.”

NHRA statement regarding Torrence-Ferre incident

“The NHRA is disappointed in the situation that occurred between Steve Torrence and Cameron Ferre after the first round of Top Fuel competition at the Auto Club NHRA Finals. We are evaluating the matter and any potential penalties will be assessed after a thorough review.”

U-bolt Strap Kit from Strange Engineering

Strange Engineering announces this new billet U-bolt strap kit (PN U1610HD). The chrome moly steel straps, ETD-150 steel studs, and ARP thread locking nuts offer a 90% strength increase and superior reliability when compared to OEM style U-bolts. The consistent clamping force and 360-degree support of the U-joint cap increase U-joint life by reducing operating temperature and eliminating the potential of over torqueing the bearing journal resulting in needle bearing damage. The 1610HD U-bolt straps are designed to work with the full line of Strange Engineering Chrome Moly 1350 series pinion yokes.
