Agent 1320 has been informed that former DSR tuner and John Force Racing tuner Brian Corradi will become a former John Force tuner as he will return to DSR and the Antron Brown team for 2020. The year-long rumor that Brown might leave DSR for the Torrence operation appears to be just a rumor and nothing more.

 

In the JFR camp the Agent hears that Advance Auto sponsorship will be off Brittany Force’s Top Fuel dragster and Monster Energy will return as primary sponsor.

 

A rumor out of the Northern California Agent 1320 office is that the Smith family is telling racers that the Sacramento track is good to be in operation for at least two more years.     [12/06/19]

NHRA to change Countdown format next year

Agent 1320 hears that the NHRA six-race Championship "Countdown" will see some rule changes for 2020 to address some issues the racers and sponsors have. The Agent understands that in the future if a race team attends all 18 events before the six-race Countdown starts they will be in the Countdown regardless of their points.

 

That would be good news for the Cat Spot-sponsored entry of Scott Palmer or the Terry McMillen’s Amalie Oil-sponsored team, both of which weren't in the 2019 playoff after being eliminated by the part-time hobby racers Mike Salinas and Billy Torrence. Both made the championship playoffs despite only attending approximately 9-10 each. The Agent thinks an announcement to that effect could come as soon as next week PRI Show in Indianapolis.   [12/06/19]

Six-race Bracket Series set for St. Louis next year

Officials at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, IL, have announced the addition of the new Midwest SuperStar Bracket Series to its 2020 track schedule. The series, which will pay $10,000 to the winner of each day’s bracket event, will consist of six races over two weekends. The first event will be held April 17-19, 2020, in conjunction with the NHRA Division 3 JEGS Super Quick Series. A second event is scheduled for June 12-14.

 

Complete days of racing will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The SuperStar series will consist of one bracket class with door cars and bikes racing each other and dragsters racing dragsters as late as possible through the program. Multiple entries will be permitted and a color-coded punch card system will be used. Buy-backs will be offered in the first or second round if there are less than 170 entries. If there are 170-299 entries, only first-round buy-backs will be offered. If there are more than 300 entries, no buy-backs will be offered. All races will be contested as 1/8-mile.

 

In addition to the Midwest SuperStar Bracket Series, WWTR also will host two $5,000 events in the autumn (dates TBA), a bracket class in conjunction with NMRA and NMCA, a pre-1979 footbrake special in conjunction with the new Mother Road Rendezvous nostalgia event in May and the local E.T. Racing Series track championship program.   [12/06/19]

Larcombe hopeful after finding Camaro’s ‘sweet spot’

Lance Larcombe is looking forward to heading to next weekend’s ANDRA South Coast National with his 1968 Camaro. The December 14-15 event at Portland’s South Coast Raceway marks round six of the 2019/2020 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series in Australia.

 

“We have been working hard on the car and after softening up the rear end just before our last event it seems we have found that sweet spot,” Larcombe explained.

 

“We have been working mainly on chassis tuning. First we worked on getting the tune-up with the new unleaded fuel where it needed to be and we feel we got pretty close to the mark fairly early in the piece.

 

“Since then it has been mostly about chassis tuning and I think we are pretty much done now – softening up the rear before the Rowe Memorial worked a treat; so we are very, very happy with where the car is at the moment – it is exactly where we want it. Mid Atlantic .90 Association announces 2020 schedule

The Mid Atlantic .90 Associations will run 10 races on five weekends next season. Classes are Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.

 

May 16 & 17: North vs. South .90 Shootout, Maple Grove Raceway, Reading, PA

June 27 & 28: Uncle Buck Pig Roast, Cecil County Dragway, Rising Sun, MD

July 18 & 19: Northeast Shootout, Atco Dragway, Atco, NJ

Aug. 8 & 9: Sportsman Circuit Shootout, Atco Dragway

Sept. 12 & 13: .90 Finale, Cecil County Dragway

 

The series will count seven out of the racer’s 10 best event finishes towards the championship.   [12/06/19]

Rejuvenated AHDRA announces eight-event schedule

The American Harley Drag Racing Association has announced dates for 2020. The series traditionally opens the season at Rockingham and next year, AHDRA President Bill Rowe Jr. said, this event will see the addition of a raffle for a 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide.

July 3-5: Cordova International Raceway, Cordova, IL

Aug. 10-11: Sturgis Dragway, Sturgis, SD

Racers will go rolling for Riley

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, NHRA and IndyCar racers will join with patients and their families for the annual fundraiser “This is How We Roll” bowling event to benefit Riley Hospital for Children and Riley Children’s Foundation.

The event will be held 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. at Western Bowl, 6441 W. Washington St., Indianapolis.

 

Drag racers taking part are Antron Brown, Tony Schumacher, Leah Pritchett, Jack Beckman, Ron Capps, Matt Hagan, Tommy Johnson Jr., J.R. Todd and Austin Prock. IndyCar racers Alexander Rossi and Charlie Kimball will also participate.

 

Sponsored by Don Schumacher Racing, the event has raised over $690,000 for the Indianapolis Foundation (www.rileykids.org) since 2005. The event is open to the public.   [12/06/19]

Off the Track:  Buick ends production of Regal sedan

Buick will discontinue production of the Regal sedan and TourX Wagon after model year 2020. Following a shift in American car-buying habits, the automaker will concentrate on crossovers and SUVs.

 

"Nearly 90 percent of Buick sales to date this year have been crossovers," Buick spokesman Stu Fowle said. "Although the Regal will no longer be offered in the U.S. and Canada, it will be sold in China where demand for sedans remains significant."

 

The small convertible Cascada and mid-size LaCrosse were dropped after 2019. Buick will add the Encore GX crossover for 2020 to complement the Encore, Envision, and Enclave crossover SUVs already on sale.

 

So maybe it’s time for SUVs in drag racing? Anyone?   [12/06/19]
