Sunday brought a lot of upsets as points leaders and past champions fell in the first round in most of the NHRA Heritage Series classes.

Hot Rod eliminator had the largest turn out of racers with 44 and in the final round the last two standing would be the new points leader.

William Teague in his candy apple red ‘67 Chevrolet Nova Super Sport left the line first with a .044 R.T. to Gene Chandler’s .083 light. Chandler’s Mustang chased down Teague but both broke out as William 11.692 e.t. was the least under his dial in 11.71 and Chandler ran a 10.557 e.t. on a 10.60 dial. So Teague from Peeley, Ca. Took home the trophy and the cash.

D/Gas, the 10.60 index class for door cars, had a total of twelve cars compete. In the final the ‘09 March Meet race winner, Mike Williams in his Gil’s Transmission 1971 Vega from Bakersfield, Calif., matched up against Ed Carey in his 1971 Camaro from La Jolla, Calif.

The race was won on the starting line as Williams cut a great .034 light and never saw Carey, who cut a .113 light and broke out trying to catch the little red Vega, running a 10.578 e.t. at 124.67 mph to Mike’s winning 10.660 at only 119.31 mph. Mike Williams is the points leader with two wins so far this year.
