Scott Morgan dispatched Mike Wortman in the C/Gas semifinal.

The 9.60-index C/Gas class had 22 qualifiers but for the first round Sunday morning only 21 race cars made the call. In the final round Tracy, Calif., racer Scott Morgan, with his bright red 1967 Camaro powered by a Renteria Bros 434 cubic inch engine, drove around Andrew Berry and took the win light with a 9.617/143.83 to Berry’s slower 9.647/131.

James Teague (far lane) ran Bones Balough in B/Gas qualifying.

B/Gas 8.60 index D/C (door cars) had a full field of sixteen cars and Jim Teague from Sanger, Calif., made it two wins for the Teague family as his brother William took home the win in Hot Rod Elim. Jim was matched up with always-tough opponent Randy Armstrong in his C.H. Reynolds 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air.

In the final round Teague, in his blown 1963 Chevy Nova, left first and ran an 8.626 at 156 mph to Armstrong’s right there 8.646 at 156 mph for the runner up spot and the points lead in B Gas.

A/Gas 7.60 index had 17 cars trying to make the 16-car show and the lucky 17th guy, Jim Godec from Carson City, Nev., made the show when Ed Suydam broke the engine in his 1963 Pontiac Lemans. But Godec’s luck ended there as semi finalist Rob Patten, in his bright yellow ‘63 Corvette, took him out in the first round.
