In the other semi, Elly Stafford took down Dan Schrokosch, who red lighted.

The final would be over at the starting line as Bobby Cottrell of Whittier, Calif., got a big hole shot (.033 light) to Stafford’s .103. Cottrell took the win running a 7.626 at 154.63 mph over Stafford’s way quick 7.572 at 177.11 mph.

Pro 7.00 had seven cars show up so number one qualifier Bob Murphy would get a single in the first round and he would work his way through the field to the final round to match up against Mike Cross (shown) who helped get the NHRA Heritage series to run this class. Both drivers cut bad lights and Cross drove around Murphy to take the win 7.041/194 to 7.074/183, giving Cross his first win.

Junior Fuel rules have been set to only having one class now and all the cars have to run to the B rules so only four cars raced at this event as a couple more were up interstate at LVMS the Strip for the NHRA National event and raced in the Lucas Oil Series there.

Bud Hammer, the 2009 NHRA Heritage series Champion, qualified on the pole and met J.D. Zink in the final. Both left the line together, but Zink shook the tires hard and Hammer hammered home a 7.202 e.t. at 185 mph to leave Zink in another time zone with an 8.486 e.t. at 163.77 mph.

A/ Fuel was the only nitro class running at this race and had eight dragsters show up. The flying fortress of Dr. Kin Bates (shown) with Dean Adams tuning came into this race leading the 2009 points race. Dr. Bates lost the championship last year, so this team wants the championship this year and they took the number one spot.

Bates took a single in the final as Nick Norton from Long Beach, Calif., could not make the final due to engine damage in the semi final win over Jeremy Sullivan.

Since the Bates team knew that they had a single, in the final they decided to try the other lane which they thought might be better than the lane they ran all day. They had the dragster on a high dose of nitro and loaded to lay down a quicker e.t. but the car launched into severe tire shake and since the race was already won Dr. Bates wisely shut it down to an 11.66 at a whopping 74 mph.
