There were 10 Pro Mods on hand to fill the eight-car ladder, ranging from nitrous-injected to blown to turbocharged. Two qualifying sessions were run to set the quick eight.
Jackie Deaver’s nitrous-injected ’68 Camaro was fresh from the paint booth. In the second round of qualifying Deaver’s chute deployed as he staged. He shut off and turned off the air bottle so the crew could repack the chute. He restarted, restaged and let ‘er rip, but the the air bottle had not been turned back on and the chute did not deploy. Jackie stuck the nose of the Camaro into the gravel at the end of the track. But…they made the field!
Texas racer Frankie Taylor ran a career and track record ET with a 3.799 at 190.44 mph in his blown 2005 Corvette C5 in the first round of qualifying.
