LIMITED 10.5

Long time racer Mike Salki (shown) ran an impressive 8.925/157.50 in qualifying and got a bye in round one. Dan Tyack and Casey Vantel came out next. Tyack is from Bakersfield, and running in the true Famoso fashion, clicked the lights at 9.116/146.93 to Vantel’s 9.199/156.63. The next to last pair was Cale Hunter and his super clean ‘68 Camaro against the ’84 Camaro of Norm Bartibi. Hunter had the better RT of .139, but it just wasn’t his day, as on the other side Bartibi got to the strip first with a 10.830/137.04 to Hunter’s 18.283/67.56. The last pair was Mike Ordan in his ‘68 Firebird against Mike Stewart from Mike’s Transmissions. Ordan claimed the win with 9.254/150.70 to Stewart’s losing but respectable 9.780/146.10.

Round two started by matching Orban against Salki. Salki’s earlier impressive run would do him little good here, as Orban’s 9.331 run was just too much for him to beat. Next up, Tyack lit up the win lights with a 9.653 over Bartlett’s anemic 13.164. Unfortunately, degrading weather conditions eighty-sixed the final.

PRO STOCK-MODIFIED

The first pair was to be Ron Shaw and Taro Martinez, but on Saturday’s qualifying pass, Martinez had a nasty fire which put him out of competition. Shaw ran the car out to a 9.651 ET. The ‘08 Champion Mike Pritchard, or as everyone calls him, the Non-Stick Pritchard, was up against young and upcoming driver Gary Brandt Jr. Things happened quick, maybe too quick for Pritchard, as he ran under the radar handing Brandt the win. This would set up the final in this class, Brandt vs. Shaw. Unfortunately, high winds put paid to the final round.

A/GAS

With opponent Bruce Sanders a no-show, John Durden and his #1 S10 got a single with a nice pass of 7.701. Frank Merenda and his ‘65 Nova wagon “The Home Wrecker” went broke, so Terry Newton got a single at 7.684. Del Perkins, the hometown favorite, faced off with Greg Holman from Kingman, AZ. Maybe being the local favorite helped, as his 7.887 dominated Holman’s 8.502. High winds forestalled any ideas of finishing off the class however.
