Another ACU Top Fuel Bike trophy for the Woollatt display cabinet, thanks to the late stage round sponsorship brought in by the Bulldog Bash event organizers that permitted the fuel bikes to run at the Summernationals, Steve being happier with this one than a fair few he has picked up recently as The Dealer had finally started to respond to changes in the clutch management system in the way the team expected. Although the numbers weren’t outstanding, a low qualifying 6.558 being lowered to a 6.453/217 in a first round bye and a 6.484/210 being enough to cover Rene van den Berg’s 7.1, the establishment of a solid baseline should see progression in the remaining rounds of the ACU National championship.
After stepping up from ACU Competition Bike last year, Kev Charman took his first win in ACU Funny Bike competition at the Summernationals with a string of consistent 7.3s from his Mistress Minx nitrous-injected Suzuki, managing to defeat low qualifier Dave Holland and reigning champion Chris Hall in the semis and final round respectively.
The Dave Beck story was similar to that that narrated Steve Woollatt’s weekend, another low qualifying effort and another trophy but without truly spectacular numbers, although the reigning ACU Pro Stock Bike champion was pleased to be able to step up to a 7.29/179 in the final round against a redlighting Len Paget despite the hot track conditions and rising corrected altitude.
