It was another hot Texas summer night at Texas Raceway when 13 members of the Texas Outlaw Pro Mod Association rolled in for their August meet. The air temperature for first round of qualifying was down to 100 degrees from the earlier 104 degrees with the track temperature at 120 degrees. This combination of temperatures tested everyone’s prowess of engine tune-ups and driving abilities on figuring out how to get down the track.

Gaylen Smith’s “Hellfish” Cuda and “Mad Man” Frankie Taylor’s 2005 Corvette showed everyone how it is done with a 3.96 and 3.81, respectively, in the first round of qualifying.

In Round Two of qualifying Chuck Poindexter’s Beretta suffered a broken rod on the burnout, leaving oil from the starting line to water box. It took the Texas Raceway track crew thirty minutes to clean up and the track never quite recovered from this. Despite the better air and track temperatures, no one could improve their ET’s.

Frankie Taylor’s Corvette sported new carbon fiber wheelie bars.
Well, that’s one way to get rid of an oil-down.
