Canadian hitter Kenny Lang was one of the dozen or so teams that didn't qualify at the ultra-competitive race.

The sixteen-car field had nine supercharged cars, four turbocharged cars and only two turbocharged cars. Buffalo new York racer/engine shop owner Mike Janus was on the pole with a solid 5.77 ET but the turbocharged cars showed they were making the most power as both Troy Coughlin and Don Walsh recorded speeds of 254+ four MPH faster than any other Pro Mod team could muster.

ELIMINATIONS

Mike Knowles qualified 15th with his supercharged 'Stang, putting down a 5.927/245+ but lost in the first round to runner-up Walsh.

Bill Glidden entered eliminations as the No. 13 qualifier in his Nitrous Oxide-injected Mustang and in the first round he raced past Danny Rowe team member Steve Matusek's supercharged Camaro, and trailered the turbocharged entry of Troy Coughlin in the semis.
The event win moved Glidden into second in the NHRA Pro Mod championship points.
