Round two saw Petrovski pull into stage against Mark Bellerie’s blown Monaro and after a very even leave, Petrovski pulled away to a 6.037/251.58 to 6.987 win. The last pairing saw Petrovski take on Paul Mouyahet’s Mustang in an unusual tussle. The Mustang driver held his car in stage for over 1.8 seconds allowing Petrovski an easy win thanks to a .138 and 6.172 time to a 7.442.

Paul Mouyahet

The pilot of the world’s fastest Pro Mod car was back in the seat of his “little” Mustang and opened his account for the day with a wild drive job in qualifying that had the orange car zig-zagging from centre line to right hand wall – a 6.417 at only 179 mph will give you some idea of the run. He then took on Jeff Wilson in the first frame but Wilson was to experience problems and a 5.871 at 257.28 mph had the Corvette more than covered.

The second round saw both he and Andrew Searle red light with the latter adding insult to injury when it broke, leaving Mouyahet to take a 10-second win. The last pairing with Steve Petrovski was equally strange for the Mustang driver as after staging the car he built the boost for 1.8 seconds longer than the green and a 7.442 was overshadowed by a superior 6.172.

Danny Makdessi

The gorgeous candy apple red painted blown 521 BAE powered ’67 VC Chrysler Valiant of Danny Makdessi was a welcome addition to the Turbo Vs Blown bracket. He didn’t put down a qualifying pass but anyone would have thought that a .545 light would have meant that his 6.645 time would be a loser in his match against Garry Serafoglu’s Commodore except that the latter took 2.640 seconds to react to the green light so it was game over. Round two saw the big Chrysler strike the tyres off the line on a solo that was completed in 15.30 seconds. The third round saw Makdessi’s reactions improve to a .048 light that covered opponent, Andrew Searle’s .139 and add the fact that the candy apple red flyer ran its best number of 6.572 at 208 mph and it put Searle’s Mustang’s 8.009 back on the trailer.
