This one defies explanation. It is a photo of Jerry Childress’s wild sedan called the ‘Bold Venture’. This car was runner up for the first Top Eliminator trophy which your writer won by scant inches at the conclusion of the first drag race in June of 1960. Track announcer Danny Hobbs found this while cleaning his attic. Jerry used a small block Chevrolet engine with a Latham Supercharger turning 6 to 1 crankshaft speed, a unique and long forgotten combination.

And then it finally happened. While reviewing a photo album of Gary Trump during our on-going ‘Bucket List’ trip, we discovered this picture of the first Top Eliminator final at Tri State Dragway on June 14, 1960. JERRY CHILDRESS in the tower lane vs. your writer driving the original configuration of our Pontiac-’32 Ford Coupe, the 7-11. The linesman in the center is Russ Guymon, a popular Keokuk racer for many years around the tri-state area.
