Don’t get unhinged

Burkster, you haven't ranted in some time.  There are those of us who hinge on your very rant.  Help!

A possible subject might be why Goodguys (or NHRA) cancelled the GG show at Joliet. Goodguys had a great, well-attended show at Indy for years, then, all of a sudden GG goes to the 500 track and gets a nostalgia drag race that same year at Joliet. Now someone has decided that Joliet isn't worth running. There is too much interest in nostalgia racing for me to believe GG didn't want a nostalgia show in the Midwest. Can you ferret out the true story for us?

I have an idea. Why not have Tom Crapton be NHRA's official starter? That way he could at least do something for the big bucks he receives every year!

This comment is meant for Jim Baker - I love his reflections on the good old days in the Midwest.

Jim mentioned that there was a strip at Whitehall, IL, but he didn't mention that it was dirt.  We (Jim Kirby) got booked in there in 1965 to race Biggers and Loo, and, much to my surprise, the 1/8 mile strip was dirt which was watered and packed to get amazingly good bite!

Jim also didn't mention Faifer and Murray.  I remember them running one of the quickest blown small blocks in the nation, mostly at Alton.

Otherwise, super good work, Jim.

New Starter for NHRA? Maybe Division 7's Mike Rice? Maybe Division 6's Starter, Mark Lyle?

Remember, you got this from a secret mic in TC's office!
