Todd hopes momentum carries him to Charlotte win

Coming off the biggest win in his career, J.R. Todd hopes to put the momentum from his U.S. Nationals win to good use. Starting from the eighth position in the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship, the Funny Car standout knows he can’t waste any time, either.

 

For Todd to have any thoughts of a first world championship, he’ll need a good start at this weekend’s NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway, the first of six playoff races to conclude the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

 

“I'm really looking forward to the Countdown, especially the way our Toyota Camry Funny Cars have performed these last few races,” said Todd, who has two wins in the last four races. “I'm hoping that we can get hot like these DHL guys did in 2015 (with Del Worsham) and end up holding the big trophy in Pomona at the end of the year.”  (Chris Haverly photo)  [09/12/17]

Meyer and Williams win in Earlville

Racers Megan Meyer (shown), Olathe, KS, and Kirk Williams, Glenwood, IA, took home wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car Sunday evening, Sept. 10, at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Iowa. This event concluded the six race Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series in the NHRA West Central division.

 

Meyer faced off against Mike Edstrom, Maple Grove, MN, running 5.337 seconds, 272.39 mph, for the holeshot win.  Edstrom runner upped at 5.294 seconds, 271.62 mph.

 

Williams captured the Top Alcohol Funny Car victory with a pass of 5.617 seconds, 256.26 mph. Kris Hool, Evansville, WY, had mechanical issues midway through his pass, finishing up at 7.508 seconds, 126.33 mph.

Tiffin coming to DRO AA/FC Challenge event in Tulsa

Vic Tiffin called to say his team will be at the DRO AA/FC Challenge’s next event. His “Gold Digger” has a new look for the Raymond Beadle Memorial at Tulsa Raceway Park on Sept. 22-23.

Quain Stott’s Southeast Gassers Association put on another no-time event, this one at Ringgold, GA, on Saturday, Sept. 2. Donovan Stott got the A/Gas win over Jimmy Finley; Rusty Sampsell took the C/Gas win over Dean Harris; and Todd Oden was the D/Gas winner over Josh Pruitt.

 

Racing without caring about Elapsed Time or speed seems to be the newest fad that has taken hold across the country.

 

For example, the No ET Nationals will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at Michigan’s Milan Dragway. Beginning at noon, it’s just $40 to race and $20 to watch. [09/12/17]

Linke clinches Divisional championship in Stock

Russell Linke and Scott Benham scored big victories in front of a cheering home crowd during the NHRA Northeast division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park on Sept. 10.

 

Linke, who lives minutes away from the track in Old Bridge, NJ, gave up the starting line to charging Fred Thibeault, Middleton, Nova Scotia, but Thibeault took too much stripe and broke out. Linke earned the Stock Eliminator divisional Wally trophy, making a winning pass of 10.519 seconds, 115.65 mph; Thibeault 10.212 seconds, 126.01 mph.

 

New Jersey Comp Eliminator standouts Benham of Jackson and Frank Aragona of Freehold squared off in the final round. Benham pulled the minor upset, running 8.076 seconds, 162.02 mph to hold off Aragona, 7.365 seconds, 177.72 mph.
