Cruz, Enders, Savoie and Torrence get the wins!

Cruz Pedregon got his 36th career win on Sunday, but the last NHRA national event he won was at Englishtown, NJ, back in 2014. The Snap-On Funny Car team got its first win in 92 outings.

 

“I knew we had our work cut out for us when I pulled up to the starting line in the finals,” Pedregon said, “and I actually didn’t believe my ears when my team manager told me I won. It was surreal, and I cannot believe that I won this race.”

Jerry Savoie emerged victorious in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class, as he earned his ninth career victory and first at zMAX Dragway when he ran a 6.784 at 195.73 on his White Alligator Racing Suzuki in the final round. He bested Andrew Hines, Scotty Pollacheck and Matt Smith in the final round to lock down his first victory since Brainerd last season. (Chris Haverly photo)

Steve Torrence piloted his Capco Contractors dragster to a 3.813-second pass at 326.56 mph as he became the first driver to reach three victories in the first six events of the season. He defeated Doug Kalitta, Terry McMillen and Clay Millican in the final round for his 19th career win. Gonzalez takes first Pro Mod win

One week after earning the first No. 1 qualifier of his career in Houston, Jose Gonzalez notched his first career victory in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service portion of the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

 

Gonzalez ran a 5.743-second pass at 254.09 mph in his Chevrolet Q80 Camaro to take down Steve Jackson, Rickie Smith and Brandon Snider in the final round. Gonzalez became the first Dominican-born driver to earn a victory at an NHRA national event.  [04/30/18]

Pawuk to drive second Factory Stock as Pritchett teammate

The Agent hears that former Pro Stock racer Mark Pawuk will return to the NHRA schedule driving a second Factory Stock Challenger for Don Schumacher Racing, joining Leah Pritchett in the class. There were HOW MANY FS entrants at Charlotte; while there weer HOW MANY Pro Stocks.  [04/30/18]

U.S. racer Frankie Taylor left his home in Texas after competing at the Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, NC, and is heading for Australia for the Gulf Western Oil Nitro Thunder event at Sydney Dragway. Traveling with him are his brother Paul and his crewman Jeremy to work together as Frankie drives one of the Team Bray Racing (TBR) doorslammers.

 

Ben Bray is fourth in the points race with Taylor right behind. There are only two events left this season to add points for the 400 Thunder Pro Slammer Championship.

 

“Sydney is where I set my personal best pass of 5.700 seconds,” said Bray, “and was the host of Frankie’s first ever Australian event win, which came in what was his first race over here and his first event for TBR.”  [04/30/18]

Cook takes Super Pro win at Gateway

Scott Cook of Festus, MO, won the final round of Super Pro eliminations during the third round of the Carl’s 4WD Bracket Series today at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL. Cook defeated Tom Tignor of Hillsboro, MO, (brown 1979 Malibu), 4.827 sec./136.07 mph to 6.158 sec./108.25 mph in the eighth mile. Cook’s near-perfect reaction time of .004 sec. sealed the win.

Second Spring Fling of year ready to go at GALOT

Ten days ago, the K&N Spring Fling brand crowned it’s latest Million Dollar champion in Randell Reid at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This week, the brand moves to Galot Motorsports Park in Dunn, NC.

 

Tuesday will be for a Test & Tune session, with $15,000 to win on Wednesday, $20,000 to win both Thursday and Saturday. The Kooks Door Car Shootout will also pay $10,000 to win on Thursday. Friday is the main event where the winner of the Spring Fling could receive as much as $50,000. [04/30/18]
