VOLUME XX,  NUMBER 4 - APRIL,  2018

Winners named at .90 series season opener

This Mid Atlantic .90 Association began its season April 28 and 29 at New Jersey’s Atco Dragway.

The Super Comp final featured Maryland's Randy Winfelder Jr & Pennsylvania's Kevin Scholl. At the flash of the tree Winfelder took a .006 to .014 advantage and parlayed that into a 8.93 to 8.94 victory over Scholl. In Super Gas, 1986 NHRA Super Gas World Champion Ron Orbin made his return to Super Gas with a victory when New York runner Frank Volpe went .004 red in the final.

In what might be the most interesting final of the weekend in Super Street when Dave Harvey Jr. (right) took the win over Jimmy Young in an all-footbrake final. Harvey took the win after an almost even start with Young but, Young went under the 10.90 index with a 10.892 to Harvey’s winning 10.905.

But things were different for the second race. On Sunday cold temperatures meant that everything the racers had learned on Saturday was no longer valid.

In the Super Gas final local runner Nick Olt took his Team Advantage Corvette to the win over Sean Lang after Lang went -.002 red in his Caviler.

In Super Street three-time Mid Atlantic Super Street Champion Keith Mayers took the win over Kelli Barbato and her ‘68 Camaro. Barbato took the advantage at the tree (.010 to .019) but just took a little too much stripe and ran under with a 10.896 to Mayers’ winning 10.910. Due to the cold temps the Super Comp final was pushed to the June event and will be contested between Kyle Koretsky and Steve Everett Sr.

March Meet Redux

The Agent wants to pass along a youtube post produced by Cole Coonce about this year’s March Meet. The Dragstrip Rumble https://youtu.be/3er1a6bflEE takes a close look at the Top Fuel dragsters. (Maybe the folks producing the NHRA Big Show coverage could get some pointers.)

Tedesco takes Spring Fling Thursday win

Mia Tedesco

Thursday at Galot Motorsports Park brought the Kooks Headers Door Car Shootout where 32 randomly selected door cars raced for $10,000-to-win. Kellan Farmer had a bounty on his head and the person who defeated him earned a Racepak Sportsman Data Logger. Jamie Bridge from Canada sealed that deal when he defeated Farmer in the third round of eliminations.

As for the Pro 32 class, the final round came down to Wednesday night’s Pro 32 winner Lee Zane and “Nasty Nick” Hastings with Hastings taking the reaction time advantage, the win and a $500 bonus, in addition to moving into the sixth round of the Super Pro field.

Mia Tedesco had entered both her dragster and door car and after the seventh round, only her dragster was left in the competition. In the semifinal, Tedesco used an .011 RT and a 4.775 on a 4.75 dial to end the day for Bob Engleman, who had knocked out Tedesco’s car in the previous round. Tommy Plot took the bye into the final.

Only three-thousandths of a second separated them off the starting line, but it was the dragster of Tedesco turning on the win light.

With two entries still left in at five cars, Tedesco was definitely staying focused between driving two entirely different types of car. “I had a lot of fun today,” she said, “and I think it helped me to stay focused plus my crew did a great job taking care of the cars. We decided to take a break from racing NHRA and do more bracket racing and this is a great event to win and race at. It’s like a well-oiled machine.”

In the Kooks Headers Door Car Shootout semifinals, Bryson Scruggs defeated John Lassiter and Bill Groton III took out Paul Warwick. For the final, Scruggs had a perfect reaction time but it was Groton and his four-door, column shifted Pontiac taking the $10,000 win.
