The Xtreme Dragbike Association took part in the MTC Engineering Summer Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park on June 22-24.

 

Friday night rain disrupted the first qualifying session, but Saturday was clear and most of the racing was finished on Sunday before rain ended the event with four classes not completed.

The Real Street class will be getting a rule update that goes into effect for the next event July 27-29 at MDIR: Nitrous ZX-14 bikes are getting 1 more inch; Nitrous ZX-10 bikes are getting 2 more inches; All Motor 1000 bikes are getting 2 more inches. The next stop for the 2018 XDA season will be at Maryland International Raceway for the famed 18th annual WPGC Bike Fest on July 27-29. [06/29/18]

Off the Track: Unintended Consequences?

Some U.S. companies say they are already feeling a squeeze from Mr. Trump’s new tariffs on steel and aluminum, forcing them to charge customers more for their products.

 

As a result, the companies told the Wall Street Journal, some customers have chosen to take their business to foreign suppliers that use cheaper materials that are not subject to the tariffs.

 

For example, Harley-Davidson recently announced that as a result of the escalating trade war with the European Union the Wisconsin-based company will move their motorcycle production overseas. Harley-Davidson explained that the E.U. tariffs (announced in response to the U.S. tariffs on E.U. goods) would result in an increase of about $2,200 per average motorcycle exported from the U.S. to the E.U.

 

In addition to the E.U., as a result of the announced U.S. tariffs, other countries have planned tariffs on U.S. goods, including Canada, Mexico and China, expanding the effects to agriculture products as well as steel and aluminum, with a potentially large impact on several industries. It remains to be seen how all this shakes out in the coming months.   [06/29/18]
