I-70 Speedway and Kansas City International Raceway (KCIR) were originally built by the same group in the late 1960’s to serve the Kansas City market. Both facilities closed within the past 10 years and will now get a fresh start with the help of multiple companies, including the same corporation that revamped Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kansas, and National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio.

Both tracks will be rebuilt on the property in Odessa, Missouri, that originally housed I-70 Speedway. The facility will be named I-70 Motorsports Park and be home to both race tracks.

A quarter-mile dragstrip will be built on the Odessa property, along with a half-mile clay dirt oval. The National Hot Rod Association will sanction the dragstrip and while the dirt track will hold special feature Sprint Car action from several different sanctioning bodies.

Leading the project is Kansas City businessman and entertainment property owner, Chris Payne. "I'm super excited to be involved with rebuilding two historical race tracks which have been a part of the local communities for decades. Like most successful projects, it takes a group of devoted people and companies, including the support of the local governments, to complete the project. Our hopes are I-70 Motorsports Park becomes a staple in the community for all to enjoy for generations to come."

Driver Jason Line is just one win away from scoring the 50th of his career. He has 47 in Pro Stock and two in Stock Eliminator. He has never won at this weekend’s race location, Epping, NH, and it would be perfect to get that half-century mark.

"I think the best part about racing at New England Dragway is that the fans really love Pro Stock, and they sure know how to show it,” the Mooresville, NC, resident said. “There is certainly something special there, and every time we've raced there, we've felt like the stars of the show. I haven't made much of an impact there in the past when it comes to final rounds or wins, but hopefully we can change that this year. I'd like to check this one off the list, and we've been making improvements steadily these past few races. This could be where we turn it around. That would be a nice boost at this point in the season."

The family name Lagana holds a lot of weight at historic New England Dragway, a fact not lost on second-generation drag racer Dom Lagana.

"Dad used to match race all the time up here," Dom said, referring to his father, Bobby Lagana Sr., who barnstormed the Northeast in a Funny Car in the 1980s and '90s. "Growing up just a few hours south of here (on the New York/Connecticut border), this was a regular stop for us.

"I've personally raced here in a bunch of NHRA races, our dad match raced here all the time when we were kids, and we've all competed in IHRA events here forever. It's another one of those tracks we kinda grew up at. I even made my first 300-mph run here in a match race against my brother Bobby in 2009, so that was cool. Nothing but wonderful memories from here."
