Kalitta Motorsports, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary in NHRA this season, is welcoming back Del Worsham as co-crew chief of the Global Funny Car entry. Worsham previously served as crew chief with Kalitta Motorsports in 2012 before taking over driving duties to become one of only three drivers in NHRA history to earn championships in both Funny Car (2015 with Team Kalitta) and Top Fuel (2011).
“This year, not only are we racing again with Kalitta Motorsports and proud to do so, but we have the addition of Del Worsham who is going to be in charge of the Global Funny Car,” said Global Electronic Technology Founder and CEO Steve Bryson. Global has returned as sponsor for the third year.
“We feel certain we have a fair shot at not only wins, but even a World Championship with Shawn Langdon. Having Del on the team is immeasurable in terms of value and it is with great honor we spend another year here with him and Connie Kalitta, the rad man himself. This is going to be fun, but we’re not here to play, so look out folks, we’re coming for the Wally.”
Worsham will partner with Team Kalitta crew chief Nicky Boninfante on the Global Camry Funny Car. Boninfante was co-crew chief on Worsham’s Funny Car in 2015 when they won the championship. [01/29/19]
The 1990 Gatornationals final was a repeat of 1989 as Darrell Gwynn (near lane) again stopped Eddie Hill in the final for his last win. See all the other photos from Part 4 (1986-90) of Steve Gruenwald’s Gatornationals retrospective. [01/29/19]
As a kickoff to the 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, Stock and Super Stock “class” eliminations will be moved one week earlier into the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Regional event, commonly known as the Baby Gators, in Gainesville, FL.
“We want every NHRA Stock and Super Stock racer to have the opportunity to compete for that once in a lifetime Wally trophy from the 50th Anniversary event. Adjusting the schedule to run Class eliminations during the Baby-Gators opens the door to offer more racers the opportunity to etch their name in the history books as a Gatornationals Class Winner," said Josh Peterson, NHRA vice president of racing administration.
The tentative schedule includes Test-N-Tune on Wednesday, March 6. Qualifying for Stock and Super Stock will begin Thursday afternoon with Class Eliminations on Friday, March 8.
The Agent must note that to compete at the 50th Gatornationals, racers need to have seven (7) grade points. [01/29/19]
“My operation fully functions with a four-car team, with the chassis shop, machine shop and engine program, it makes it all make sense,” said John Force. “We will find a partnership to run this fourth car. Chasing sponsorships is no different than chasing a championship, you work on it 24/7.” [01/29/19]
Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. Stott’s Ford Top Sportsman Series and Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster Series will also be run in conjunction with the event. [01/29/19]
Hi-Boost 105mm Throttle Body from Wilson Manifolds
Specifically developed for severe duty and high boost applications, the new Wilson Manifolds Hi-Boost (HB series) design provides improved performance and durability. They start with a sealed shaft that is pressure tested to 100 psi and stable under the high engine temperatures seen in competition applications. The mounting coupler has been redesigned for the TPS sensor to eliminate erratic signals sometimes seen under high boost. Then the blade is installed in a split-shaft for superior strength – counter sunk mounting screws hold the blade in a contoured design for improved airflow at full throttle. Initially offered in the popular 105mm opening, additional sizes will be coming soon. [01/29/19]
