At the Detroit Dragway Reunion at Milan, MI, Shawn Bowen made some passes in the first dragster he has built. The third pass saw Bowen perform a nice save, as the tire tracks show.
Bowen and his dad, Mike, were three-time champions (2013-15) of the DragRacingOnline.com AA Funny Car Challenge in “The Violator.”
The Detroit Dragway Reunion was rained out on its original date and rescheduled to June 15, but a poor forecast kept the car and the fan attendance low.
Steve Timoszyk had the best performance of the day with a 6.15/208 in the “Detroit Tiger” Monza. [06/18/19]
Hamam answered nitrous oxide-injection questions for DRO readers for several years. A long-time friend of editor Jeff Burk, Wady will be sorely missed by Burk and racers all across the country.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 17270 Ward St., Fountain Valley, CA 92708. [06/18/19]
Nancy Matter was the winner of the Funny Car Chaos at Mo-Kan Dragway in April.
The Guardian For Heroes Nitro Funny Car Team of Nancy Matter, led by her life-long friend and legendary racer Dale Pulde, has announced their new partnerships with Glen Sander Engineering, SSI, and System One Oil Filtration Systems.
For Matter, facilitating and driving a nitro funny car is a dream come true. Matter competed with the NHRA and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series in Top Alcohol Funny Car for more than 10 years, crediting Lou and Vicki Gasparrelli for allowing her as a kid to help around their Top Alcohol Funny Car for several years in Southern California.
“Since switching to a Nitro Funny car last year, we literally changed everything on the car from when we brought it to Texas,” stated Matter. “We’ve been on a steep learning curve transitioning from NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car to an NHRA-legal Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car. We’ve been building all new relationships with many racing manufacturers as well; their expertise is top notch and invaluable to all racers’ success. Glen, Rich and Mark have been extremely supportive of our new endeavor and we are incredibly grateful to team up with all three of these highly reputable companies.”
There is no question that ‘The Guardian’ is preparing for their NHRA debut. However, until then, Matter and The Guardian For Heroes - Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield Legacy Team are looking forward as they continue to raise awareness for not only Guardian For Heroes, but also for Chris and Chad’s legacy. Blake Alexander wasn’t planning to drive his Pronto Auto Services Funny Car at Bristol, but he decided to forego a weekend off his part-time schedule with the NHRA Mello Yello series when asked to move into the seat of Jim Head’s car. Regular driver Jonnie Lindberg is trying to get his green card and has been held up a bit going through the procedure.
Jeff Arend, who filled in at Topeka for Lindberg, was unavailable to repeat as he was competing at the Holley Hot Rod Reunion in Kentucky.
At Bristol Alexander met Ron Capps in the first round. Alexander was off the line first, but Capps caught him and pulled ahead for the win. Capps beat Shawn Langdon 4.039/312.28 to 4.080/309.27 in the second before falling to Bob Tasca, who went on to win the event. [06/18/19]
