Jr. Dragster graduate Dial wins Rockingham ‘big car’ race

Holden Dial, a graduate of Rockingham Dragway’s Jr. Dragster program, benefitted from a final round foul start from Randy Carmichael Sunday and won the second half of the track’s annual Twin Fives bracket racing championship.

 

Dial and his sister Brittany, who also graduated from the Jr. Dragster ranks, just missed an opportunity to oppose one another in the final when Carmichael used a .017 package to beat her good-but-not-good enough .025 in the round of five.

Attorney Dave Spencer was the Friday winner in an all-Raleigh, NC, final round in which he stopped Rockingham regular Richard Alford Jr. when the latter was .007 too quick at the start, fouling out.

 

This week, Carmichael will exchange his driving helmet for a torque wrench when he returns to crew member duties with nitro Funny Car owner “Big Jim” Dunn and driver Jim Campbell at the season-ending NHRA Finals at Pomona, CA. [11/11/19]

Mo-Kan renews with IHRA

Mo-Kan Dragway, the oldest continuously operated drag strip in Missouri, has agreed to a multi-year sanctioning agreement with the IHRA. The track, located in Asbury, MO, near the Kansas border, has been in operation since 1962. Carl Blanton purchased the track from original owners, Jim and Ron Wilbert, in 1999.

 

Mo-Kan (www.mokandragway.com) is the home track of IHRA Summit SuperSeries Mod World Champion Dustin Avondet. Other Mo-Kan qualifiers for the IHRA Summit World Finals were Michael Johnson (Top), John Dost (Sportsman) and Andrew Goss (Junior).   [11/11/19]

Jr. Dragster racer gets win on late sister’s birthday

Zara Board took a very emotional victory at the Perth Motorplex’s Goldenstates event, which marks round four of the national 2019/2020 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

 

Zara and her parents have proudly continued on in the sport of Junior Dragster in Anita’s memory and were understandably emotional yet ecstatic with the result, which came as the second anniversary of Anita’s passing following an accident at the same event approaches.

 

This Goldenstates event was the first national-level event run for the Junior Dragster category at the Perth Motorplex since the Australian government lifted its suspension on the Junior category in October.

“(Anita’s birthday) was on my mind a lot of course,” Zara said. “I wanted to win it so badly for all of the hard times my family has been through – I just wanted to give them something amazing to smile about, so it would be an amazing day for her birthday, not a sad day.”

Mike Coughlin gets Div. 3 Top Dragster championship

After sweating out the final results of the last Top Dragster race of the year in Las Vegas, Mike Coughlin officially bagged the Division 3 championship in his category on the strength of a stellar summer season that included two crucial victories and a string of impressive finishes. Coughlin also has two Top Sportsman class championships in 2007 and 2009.

 

"I feel a great sense of pride," Coughlin said. "I'm so happy for my crew guys, Greg Cody, Dave Raurk and Tony Collier, and everyone else who's helped us along the way.”

 

Coughlin was challenged late in the year by Danny Nelson, who came ever-so-close to catching and passing Coughlin during this weekend's Division 7 finale at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Had Nelson won the race, he would have stolen away the D3 championship from Coughlin, and Nelson's impressive run down the stretch had everyone nervous.

 

"We've been on pins and needles the last three weeks waiting for this event because our last race we went out early and Danny ended up winning it so that tightened things up quite a bit," Coughlin said. "He was so strong this fall, winning a bunch of rounds and races and it just seemed it might not be our year. But he ended up losing in Round 3 this weekend and that gave us the title by 10 points. It was a huge sigh of relief. We finally got some late-season luck.”   [11/11/19]

‘Matchbox’ cars make Toy Hall of Fame

We’re sure that, like the Agent, you’ve been waiting to see if Matchbox cars made into the Strong Museum of Play as we first told you in September. We are happy to report that the beloved miniatures are one of three toys that will be added. Also inducted this year were coloring books and Magic: The Gathering, a collectible card game that was introduced in 1993.   [11/11/19]

Holley's popular factory training courses are back in 2020 with an updated curriculum to stay current with Holley EFI system updates. These factory direct training classes provide a unique opportunity to get advanced training and technical experience with Holley EFI directly from the people that developed the products.

 

These two-day courses are presented at the National Corvette Museum near Holley's company headquarters in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They provide technical training for dealers, racers, and any other user of their popular EFI systems.
