Pro Extreme Motorcycles make PDRA history

At the PDRA North-South Shootout at Maryland International Raceway, Pro Extreme Motorcycle finalists Travis Davis and Eric McKinney made PDRA history when they recorded the first side-by-side 3-second pass in the two-wheel category. Davis was ahead from start to finish in the 3.987-to-3.995 final round, both at 176 mph on the eighth mile.

 

Davis’ time was just one-thousandth of a second away from the official ET record.

Canadian racers take BC Nationals wins

Canadian racing was on full display as local racers Shawn Cowie, Dan Provost, and Ed Hutchinson celebrated with their teams in the winner’s circle following their final round wins at the Northwest Division, LORDCO NHRA BC Nationals Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Mission Raceway.

Cowie, Surrey, B.C., took a minor starting line advantage over Kim Parker, Graham, Wash., in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, and never let up for the win. Cowie, registered a victory pass of 5.196 seconds, 279.06 mph to Parker’s runner-up 5.229 seconds, 277.00 mph. 

 

Fans in attendance were treated to an all Canadian battle in the Top Dragster final round. Dan Provost, Abbotsford, B.C., and David Boucher, Edmonton, Alb., lined up at the starting line. Provost, earned his third Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Wally trophy, taking the starting line advantage and cruising to victory. Provost finishes first at 6.679 seconds 200.40 mph. Boucher comes in second at 7.108 seconds, 188.32 mph.

 

Ed Hutchinson, Victoria, B.C., triggered a great reaction time of .004, in the Super Gas final round beating out Steve Laskowske, Tigard, Ore., 9.894 seconds, 162.42 mph. Hutchinson registered a victory pass of 9.926 seconds, 162.30 mph.

 

Top Alcohol Funny Car standouts Chris Marshall, McMinnville, Ore., and Brian Hough, Junction City, Ore., faced off in the final round. Marshall pulled away first, mounting a big lead, finishing first at 5.670 seconds, 259.29 mph. Hough took his foot off the throttle and coasted to 6.877 seconds, 120.14 mph.

 

Pat McNally, St. Albert, Alb., had an easy route to victory in the Top Sportsman final round, as Mike Ferderer, Buckley, Wash., went red at the starting line. McNally finished at 6.683 seconds, 205.94 mph. In the Sportsman Motorcycle final round, Don DePeel, Gladstone, Ore., gave up a big starting line lead, giving the victory to Riley Toth, Medicine Hat, Alb., who finished at 8.804 seconds, 145.79 mph.

 

The other drivers visiting the Lucas Oil winner’s circle were Jeff Lane in Comp Eliminator; Dustin Ward in Super Street; Joe Sorensen in Stock; Mark Faul in Super Stock; and Andy Morris doubling up in Super Comp and Super Comp Shootout.

 

Mark Thompson in Super Pro ET and Chris Stone in Pro ET also made it to the Summit winner’s circle.

 

Specialty events were in competition as the following visited the winner’s circle; Brent McKinney in Super Gas Shootout; Gary Ermish in Super Street Shootout; Mike Lucas in Top Comp Shootout; and Garrett Richards in Western Drag Racing League Pro Mods.

 

 

The NHRA Northwest Division, Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is scheduled to visit Pacific Raceways, Kent, Wash., on June 23. 

New York gasser driver Lee Bradley dies unexpectedly

We have just received the sad news that Roland Lee Bradley, 65, of Ransomville, NY, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 31.

 

Lee, as he was known, was a member of the Gasser Racing Series and the NHRA. The funeral was Monday, June 5. Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, PO Box 239, Ransomville, NY 14131.

LODRS winners crowned for Thunder on the Plains event at Great Bend

In the final results from SRCA Dragstrip and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Keith Hall took home the Comp Eliminator trophy followed by a number of Kansas racers who celebrated in the winner’s circle for the Thunder on the Plains.

Brittany, Erica get first wins of the season

Well, it was almost a sweep for the ladies at the NHRA New England Nationals in Epping, NH. Both Brittany Force (Top Fuel) and Erica Enders (Pro Stock) got their first wins of the season.

 

Only Matt Hagan, who go the Funny Car win over Courtney Force, kept the event from being dominated by the distaff side.

Mickey Thompson to expand Top Fuel Harley series in NHRA

The Top Fuel Harleys raced over the weekend at Epping, NH. Tii Tharpe (near lane) ran 6.248/227.96 to defeat Rickey House’s 6.464 at 212.90 mph.

 

Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels has signed on as a multi-year sponsor of the popular Top Fuel Harley motorcycle category competing at select events on the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.

 

Mickey Thompson will increase its presence in the Top Fuel Harley class next year. Starting with the 2018 season, points will be earned at each of the eight events toward a series championship. Bonuses will be awarded to the top three finishers for the Mickey Thompson Tires NHRA Top Fuel HarleyDrag Racing Series. Riders will compete for a share of $97,000 in total awards between year-end prize money and the eight races next year.

 

Top Fuel Harley riders have raced at six NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series competitions so far this year, with two more events yet to come: the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals (June 16-18 at Bristol, TN) and the NHRA Northwest Nationals Aug. 4-6 at Seattle, WA).
