Be careful what you wish for: Burk is back

Remember him? Burk at the March Meet.  Editor Jeff Burk is back at work after a sabbatical leave to recharge his batteries (motivationally speaking). He’s had some time to think as he and Ace the Coonhound take their daily walk around the block of the Phlegm Building. He’s been thinking about NHRA and NASCAR. See what he’s come up with at here

Weather has forced the cancellation of this Saturday’s (April 14) Southwest Heritage Racing Association event in Noble, OK. No word on when it will be rescheduled. The next event on the schedule is Saturday, May 12, at North Star Dragway in Denton, TX.

(Kinda) Off the Track

Drivers got to do smoky burnouts and donuts inside a 160 x 160-foot area bounded by 20-foot thick sections of concrete K-Rail.

As a way to reach new fans, Irwindale Speedway did an experiment on Thursday, April 5. They held a new event called the BOX (Burn Out Xcitement) and used only social media to spread the word about the event.

“We were just blown away by the response,” said Irwindale Speedway President Tim Huddleston. “We didn’t do any big, traditional advertising … and the fans just poured in from all over to enjoy our newest motorsports attraction.”

The Box will be open every Thursday night (except Thanksgiving) from 6 to 9:30 p.m. along with the Thursday night drag racing.
