Yesterday we brought you the Saturday results from Texas Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. Here are the results of the Sunday event where two local racers claimed victories taking home the trophies in Stock Eliminator and Super Street.
In Stock, Jeff Lopez, Irving, TX, made a winning pass against Jerry Emmons in the final round with a time of 9.387 seconds, 136.91 mph, making this Lopez’s second win of the double header weekend. In Super Street, John Long Jr., Red Oak, TX, went up against John Leibham with a very tight finish taking the win with a run of 10.873, 121.40.
A pair of NHRA South Central Division hitters went to battle in the Super Stock final and reigning division champion Ross Laris took on Darian Boesch in the SDPC Top Dragster Final.
Larris, Raceland, LA, took the win running 6.050 seconds at 234.04 mph to Boesch’s 6.114, 222.66.
Slate Cummings out ran Jimmy Hidalgo in Super Stock clocking in at 9.414, 139.18 in his ’03 Cavalier to Hidalgo’s 9.737, 134.08 in his ’99 Firebird.
Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Adam Hickey, Ponchatoula, LA, in Comp Eliminator; Steve Collier, Benton, LA, in Super Comp and Jim Capp, Willis, TX, in Super Gas, In the division’s Top Sportsman class it was Allen Firestone, Velma, OK, taking the win and in Sportsman Motorcycle it was Ricky Kay from Humble, TX.
South Central Division racers head to Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park, Tulsa, OK, for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, June 8-10. [04/17/18]
Collier, Benton, LA, qualified in Super Gas out of the year-long points battle during the 2017 NHRA racing season, and would face off with 15 other drivers from seven different NHRA classes in the eighth-mile competition.
It was a family affair in round one as Collier faced off with his nephew Koy taking the win with a holeshot and a near perfect 7.004 on the 7.01 dial-in, in a double breakout. He then ended reigning NHRA Lucas Oil World Champion Austin Williams’ day in round two in another close one as Collier took the early lead and held on to advance.
In the semifinal, Collier beat out Bob Gulitti for the right to face off with David Latino of Donaldsonville, LA, for the Moser Sportsman Shootout Championship trophy. The pair left the line together with Collier laying down a 7.021-second run on his 7.02 dial for the win to Latino’s 6.567 (6.52).

As part of this year’s NHRA Legends Tour, three renowned drag racers will be at Houston for meet-and-greets, autograph sessions and a variety of other activities. Scheduled to be at the SpringNationals are Tom “Mongoose” McEwen, Richard Tharpe, and “Waterbed” Fred Miller.
The Pro Mods and the Harley-Davidson motorcycles will also compete at this event. [04/17/18]
Nitrous Plate System for Demon and Hellcat
