The NHDRO is back in the Midwest at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio, for the Liguori Drag Racing May Bike Fest on May 4-6. [04/19/18]
Jok Nicholson, DRO’s Bracket Racing Editor, and his wife, Barb (who never misses a race) have decided to make an “Old Guy’s Last Stand” and use the rear-engine dragster Nicholson has been racing and writing tech articles about in DRO for 17 years, “Project 4-Link”.
This dragster (now known as “RED”) is the most written about and read about magazine tech-featured car in history, from building the entire car from the tubing to its national event win with a variety of Mopar engines until they switched to BB Chevy power eight years ago.
Now the Nicholsons will prep the car with the best and most consistent parts they have found over 47 years of racing. See the beginning of this new project at Dead-On [04/19/18]
April is ‘Autism Awareness Month’ and featured prominently on John Gaydosh‘s Performance Chevrolet Camaro during the NHRA Spring Nationals will be a decal promoting Pathfinders for Autism.
"My nephew Kolton has autism, so it really hits close to home for us. We wanted to do something to bring awareness and help the cause,” said Gaydosh. “Pathfinders for Autism is an amazing group helping families with autistic children in the Maryland area."
Pathfinders for Autism was founded 18 years ago by a group of parents that included Baltimore Orioles Hall of Famer, William “B.J.” Surhoff, and his wife, Polly.
This will be Gaydosh's first time to Houston racing his fuel injected Pro Stock Camaro. He will once again be running a motor supplied by Chris McGaha from Harlow Sammons, Southwest Performance & Machine.
"This car is just flying. I've never gone this fast in a fuel injected Pro Stock,” said Gaydosh. "In Gainesville I was able to get used to the new power and figure out how she runs. We also had a new clutch system last race, which accounted for my delayed reaction time in round one. But now we have everything is good and so I'm excited to race in Houston." [04/19/18]
Michigan’s Milan Dragway will open the 2018 season with two days of test & tunes on Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22. The first racing event will be Liberty’s Gears No ET Nationals on Saturday, April 28. [04/19/18]
We’ve watched the number of ‘No Time” racing events increase this year and the Agent and staff of DRO have mixed opinions about them. So, we ask you readers, do you want us to report results of no-time events? Or are the speeds and ET’s important to you?
Drop us a note at editor@dragracingonline.com with the subject line: No Time. And we thank you for your time to give us your thoughts! [04/19/18]
“I'm going to figure out if I can get with NHRA, because the very first pass I make down an NHRA race track, I'm calling Stevie [Jackson] out. Maybe me and him will have a little grudge race on top of qualifying. Hell, if he wants to go every one of the qualifying rounds against each other, I'll do that.” Haney added. “And anybody else that has a little bit of oomph, if they want a piece of 'You Know My Name,' they know where to find me. I'm going to be in the NHRA Pro Mod pits and they can come find me anytime they want.” [04/19/18]
Thursday will find competitors going straight into eliminations with no time trials, for another $30,000-to-win day. It will also highlight the Racepak Bounty Reward for the person who beats Wednesday’s winner. The main event is the Million contested on Friday, where the actual payout is dependent on the actual number of cars in competition but is guaranteed to be at least $200,000. [04/19/18]
Steve Matusek won the Pro Mod race last year at Houston.
Tige Boats has been named the presenting sponsor for the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service portion of the NHRA SpringNationals, which takes place April 20-22 at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston. It marks the second of 12 races during the 2018 season.
“In partnership with Hi-Tide Manufacturing, we are excited to sponsor the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service class at the NHRA SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway this season,” said Daniel Gutierrez, Director of Marketing at Tige Boats. “We know that the SpringNationals and the NHRA has an enthusiastic fan base, and our watersports roots deeply connect with that kind of passion. We are looking forward to being a part of all the excitement at the NHRA SpringNationals!” [04/19/18]
After running a handful of events in 2017 to get a feel for her JEGS.com Super Comp dragster, Paige Coughlin will begin what she hopes will be an expanded schedule of races in 2018. Paige is a high school senior who will be attending Miami University in Ohio later this year.
Team JEGS racers Mike Coughlin, Troy Coughlin Jr. and Paige Coughlin are heading to Virginia Motorsports Park for "Power in the Park," the opening race on the Northeast Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series schedule. Tickets to this weekend’s event are free.
"We're very much looking forward to this race for a number of reasons," said Mike Coughlin, a two-time Division 3 champion and driver of the JEGS.com Top Dragster. "First of all, my guys -- Greg Cody, Dave Raurk, Ryan Micke and Tony Collier -- have this car better than it's ever been. Without question, it's one of the top cars in the world and it's certainly capable of winning any race. That's exciting.
"I'm also happy to have another chance to race with my nephew T.J. as he continues his new role driving the McPhillips nitro dragster, and his little sister Paige, my niece, will be racing in Super Comp. Plus, their dad Troy and sister Meghan and my youngest son Clay are coming, so we'll have a big group. Our family grew up racing together and it's really what we live to do more than anything else. Seeing the next generation come along makes things that much better." [04/19/18]
With a .080 reaction time in the semifinal round of eliminations, Jason Rupert is the current front-runner for the UNFC Perfect Light award with four events left. [04/19/18]
