Word has reached the Agent of the death of Bobby Rex. The San Antonio, TX, area native was a former Top Fuel team owner and crew chief, working with many cars and drivers over the years including the “Mexican Revolution” Funny Car driven over the years by Johnny Valadez, Army Armstrong and Kebin Kinsley, and the “Buck Fever” TAFC driven by Jon Barrett.

With team owner Marvin Foxworth, Rex was crew chief for the Havoc Motorsports team with Doug Foxworth and later Jim Bailey as driver of the “Havoc” Top Fuel dragster.   [12/18/18]

Chevrolet Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser (shown) has been tasked with leading GM’s newly formed AV/EV vehicle programs to focus on zero-emission-vehicle development. It’s understood to be a lateral move.

Replacing him will be Mark Dickens, current executive director of Performance Variants, Parts, Accessories, and Motorsports Engineering. Dickens, a former racer, is also one of the masterminds behind the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and ZR2 Bison programs. He’s worked closely with the Camaro team in his previous role.

Oppenheiser has been the face behind the Camaro since its reintroduction in 2009, including the NHRA-approved COPO Camaro. With him at the wheel of some of GM’s future electric vehicles, one can safely assume that there’s going to be a lot of performance associated with it.
