The Super Ford Showdown returns to the NMRA Ford SuperNationals at National Trail Raceway the weekend of June 8-11.
Super Ford Showdown is the ultimate blue oval bracket race battle royale between the class winners that takes place at the end of the event to crown the ultimate bracket racer. The winners of Fast Ford, Quick Ford, Street Ford and Nostalgia Ford will face off on Sunday afternoon for the right to be crowned Super Ford Showdown champion. All NMRA index class racers are welcome to double-enter the bracket competition.
Brought to you by series sponsor Keystone Automotive, the NMRA Ford SuperNationals features heads-up Street Outlaws, Renegades, Coyote Modifieds and much more. The Ford SuperNationals also features a giant All-Ford Car Show Saturday and Sunday, a huge manufacturers’ midway, and special race classes including True Street. [05/16/17]
The legendary Darlington Dragway will play host to the stars of the Professional Drag Racers Association for the first time ever at this weekend’s PDRA Spring Nationals, May 18-20. The historic South Carolina facility is the third stop on the all-eighth-mile series’ 2017 tour.
One of the drivers expected to make a lasting impression on the fans at Darlington is local star Tylor Miller (shown), whose family owns and operates Darlington Dragway. Miller has finished no worse than sixth in Andy McCoy Race Cars Pro Boost points since 2014, currently occupying the fourth spot after the Valdosta and Benson races.
Since the PDRA and its racers have had a break on the tour since the PDRA East Coast Nationals at the beginning of April, Miller and his Pee Dee Fleet team have had plenty of time to service their equipment in preparation for this weekend’s race. Along with crew chief and Rage Fuel Systems owner and engineer Mike Kopchick, Miller has spent the last month doing dyno pulls, freshening engine components and looking over the Andy McCoy Race Cars-built Chevelle.
“I’m very excited to get back to racing,” Miller said. “I enjoy working on the car and doing R&D, but there’s nothing like being at the racetrack. It’s a good feeling knowing the spares are ready to go and everything in the car is fresh for the race.”
The semifinals and finals from the delayed PDRA East Coast Nationals in Top Dragster, Pro Junior Dragster and Top Junior Dragster will be contested during qualifying at this weekend’s race. The Extreme Outlaw 632 final round between No. 1 qualifier Ken Quartuccio and No. 2 qualifier Johnny Pluchino will run during the third qualifying session. [05/16/17]

No Mercy Racing has announced the addition of Johnny West as crew chief on the Dodge Charger Nitro Funny Car that is owned and driven by retired USAF pilot, Chris Bennett.
"Johnny has a wealth of experience and the leadership qualities to develop our team into a professional caliber drag racing team," said No Mercy Nitro Funny Car owner/team chief, Brad Miner. “West has spent several weeks evaluating our program, and instructing the dedicated crew at NMR. We’re just a bunch of guys with a common vision that are trying to do something much bigger than ourselves and Johnny can help us transform into a top performing team ready to win races.”
West will be working with owner/assistant crew chief, Jeff Bennett, to institute a quality maintenance program while coaching him on the finer points of tuning. He will also be grooming long-time Nostalgia Funny Car and Fuel Altered driver Chris Bennett, who has been working to upgrade his license and begin professional competition.
The team began initial testing at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix, AZ, last weekend and strive to begin competition by the end of the 2017 race season. [05/16/17]
