One car that is already making waves with the new powerplant is Daren Poole-Adams’ 2017 COPO Camaro that is tuned and driven by Holley’s Director of EFI Business Development, Robin Lawrence, seen here competing at the Norwalk, OH, NHRA national event.
Chevrolet’s COPO drag racing program is helping to kick-start Direct Injection (DI) fuel systems that spray fuel at extremely high pressures directly into an engine’s cylinders. Thanks to better fuel atomization and reduced spark-lead requirements, production DI engines can run higher compression ratios on pump gas, yielding big power increases without sacrificing fuel economy or clean air.
DI has already demonstrated its potential in high-end racing venues like IndyCar, but for sportsman drag racers there will be big changes to the engine management and fuel supply systems, on which Holley is working. [06/29/17]
The Agent was perusing the jobs available at NHRA (well, you just never know when this gig could end) and saw the sanctioning body is looking for a Senior Director, Public Relations & Communications.
Hmm…the Agent has noticed that there seems to be a quick turnover in this NHRA department. [06/29/17]

DENSO Products and Services Americas, Inc., an affiliate of leading global automotive supplier DENSO Corp., has opened an original equipment supplier (OES) sales office in Plano, Texas. DENSO expanded its sales operations to Plano to support the growing concentration of automotive customers in the region, notably Toyota Motor North America, Inc. and its dealership network.
The high-tech workspace is fully equipped with Wi-Fi, magnetic whiteboards with interactive touch screens, and portable tablets instead of desktop computers to maximize operational efficiencies and advance a paperless workplace. The latter also reflects DENSO’s larger commitment to sustainable business practices.
Likewise, Granite Park Four’s eco-friendly design and construction factored into DENSO’s decision to locate its Plano office within the business park. The development is under consideration by the U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification with a silver rating.
DENSO will hold an open house on Tuesday, July 11, to welcome regional customers to the Plano office, located at 5850 Granite Parkway, Suite 950. [06/29/17]
CD-7 Plug & Play Adapter Harness from AEM
AEM has created a Plug & Play CAN bus Communication Harness (PN 30-2215) that eliminates the need to manually wire a CD-7 Digital Dash Display to a Vi-Pec i44 or i88 ECU, and 29 Link G4+ ECUs. Because the Vi-Pec and Link ECUs do not provide power from the CAN output, AEM recommends using its CD-7 Power Cable (PN 30-2218) to simplify power and ground connections. The CD-7 Power Cable connects to the AEMnet connector on the CD-7 wiring harness and includes a pigtail connection with power and ground leads that make it easy to wire the dash for power when used with non-AEMnet equipped devices. This harness is fully terminated and connects the CAN2 input on the CD-7 main harness to the CAN output on the Vi-Pec and Link. For the list of compatible ECUs and more information go to www.aempower.com. [06/29/17]
On Wednesday night, Discovery Channel Street Outlaw driver Dominator (Joe Woods) was forced to cancel his Friday night appearance at Lancaster National Dragway because of mechanical issues.
A scramble by track management to fill the void found almost every other Street Outlaw driver from the show was booked or couldn’t attend. So, a call to western NY resident and two-time world champion drag racer synonymous with supercharged power, Mike Janis, was made and he will now be racing his famous Pro Mod as part of the show.
Janis will join Kamikaze Chris and a few dozen Buffalo Street Outlaws for the highly anticipated event on Friday, June 30, at the eighth-mile dragstrip. Also racing that night will be Lancaster’s Mallare Enterprises Top, McGard Mod, Tread City Tire Street and Hebler’s Sales & Service Bikes/Sleds classes to make for a full Franco’s Pizza Friday Night Drags show.
“It was unfortunate Dominator hurt his motor last week and couldn’t get the parts he needed to make the trip to Buffalo,” said Tim Packman, Track President. “He didn’t want to just show up without his famous 1967 Dodge Dart and not be able to race.”
Janis will be racing in the Street Outlaw Unlimited Tire Class and also taking on other Buffalo Street Outlaws drivers like Mike Zmuda in Time Bomb during the event. [06/29/17]
When the Roadkill Zip-Tie Drags sponsored by Dodge rolls into town June 30-July 1 at Summit Motorsports Park, the spotlight will be on classic cars and the speculation will be on whether or when they'll break down.
David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan - hosts of "Roadkill," an automotive Internet show produced by Motor Trend and Hot Rod magazine - and cast member Elana Scherr muse about what might break, what broke and how badly it broke.
In addition to racing, the event will feature camping, bonfires, a drive-in theater, swap meet, giveaways, Hooptie Challenge and more.
All makes, models, years and styles of cars are welcome, as are motorcycles and go-karts, although check with the track if you're hoping to race something other than a car. The car show is open to all, and you can register online or show up at the track on Saturday and join the fun. [06/29/17]
Stevie “Fast” Jackson got airborne at Lights Out 8 last October.
A note was in the mayo jar on the Phlegm Building penthouse porch this morning. It says that Donald “Duck” Long has announced a $101,000 payout for the March 2018 Lights Out 9 to be held at South Georgia Motorsports Park. It would be the largest payday for Radial vs. World class.
Long’s next event, No Mercy 8, will be held this Oct. 3-8 at SGMP.[06/29/17]
