McCallum tries for three in a row Down Under

Earl McCallum is looking forward to getting in the competition at this weekend’s opening round of the 2019 Summit Racing Queensland Championship at Roma’s Ironbark Raceway on April 20-21.

McCallum competed in two of the Championship’s three events last year in the Super Sedan bracket and took two event victories in the process. Now, he is hoping to continue his winning streak aboard his HK Premier, this time in the Sportsman bracket.

The three-round Summit Racing Queensland Championship develops and promotes drag racing in regional Queensland, Australia. In addition to round one at Ironbark Raceway, the other two events this season are at Benaraby Raceway (Aug. 31) and Palmyra Dragway (Oct. 4-5).

LSX Shootout returning home to Memphis NMCA event

Jessie Coulter, Real Street Champion.

The 13th annual Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout will be held May 2-5 at Memphis International Raceway during the COMP Cams NMCA Memphis Homecoming. The facility is not only the birthplace of the street car movement, but also the location of the first LSX Shootout back in 2007.

This year, Brian Tooley Racing continues the Real Street Shootout and it takes place Friday and Saturday for any LS/modern-LT powered racecar in Edelbrock Xtreme Street. The race-within-a-race allows Real Street competitors to remain in Xtreme Street competition, enabling a racer to double up on event wins with one trip to Memphis. Real Street rewards the winner with a check for $1,000 and a bonus, courtesy of Chevrolet Performance, in the form of an LSX engine block!

New name for Gateway facility

It’s been called many things over the years, but now the Madison, IL, race facility just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis will be known as World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. With the long-term naming rights agreement WWT, a technology solution provider, also becomes the official technology partner of the track and will use the venue to advance development programs for the company and its community outreach initiatives.

The multi-faceted racing venue serves as home to NASCAR, IndyCar and NHRA racing in the St. Louis region, where World Wide Technology is headquartered. The facility includes a quarter-mile drag strip, 1.25-mile superspeedway, 1.6-mile road course, state-of-the-art karting facility, and a 14-acre multi-purpose dirt off-road venue.

As DRO’s home track, the Burkster and staff have been coming to the track for many, many years. Let’s see: Gateway Motorsports Park, Gateway International Raceway, St. Louis International Raceway – or most fondly, “the swamp.”

Mr. Aruba’s Winter Nationals gives over $13K more to JEGS Foundation

The check presentation at JEGS headquarters was attended by, from left, Ron Richards, Troy Coughlin, Mike Coughlin, Larry and Kay Smith, Mike "Mr. Aruba" DeChicco, Jeg Coughlin Jr., Jane "Mrs. Aruba" Graebner and Troy Coughlin Jr.

This year's 15th annual Mr. Aruba's Winter Nationals Bench Race and Charity Challenge raised $13,652 for the JEGS Foundation for Cancer Research. What started as a fun way to break up the winter months has now topped $100,000 in total monies raised.

Mike DeChicco and Jane Graebner, aka Mr. and Mrs. Aruba, began the event in 2005 using a practice Christmas Tree in DeChicco's basement (aka Ostrander International Raceway) in Ostrander, Ohio. Family and friends bought-in to participate, with all money raised going to the JEGS Foundation. It's been a mid-winter staple ever since.

The money goes directly to cancer research at Ohio State University and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Norwalk expands with second campground

Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH, has added a new campground area. Northfield Campground features approximately 350 campsites and is located just north of the park’s Scotty’s Campground. While electricity is not available, drinkable water and motorhome pumping services are.

Portable restrooms and showers are planned in an area that is centrally located for both campgrounds.
